Explanation of orthomolecular therapy

The principle of the orthomolecular nutrition comes from the founder of fhet medical science Hippocrates (460-373 B.C.). He said: "food is your medicine; your medicine is your food".

The starting point of the orthomolecular dietetics is that the body needs essential materials like vitamins, minerals, bioflavonoid, essential fatty acids and enzymes.

In fact, our nutrition contains all these materials. Unfortunately in these times it happens to often that they are not. Also a lot of people have bad nutrition habits and diseases or the use of many medicines can cause deficiencies.

Patients with signs of a shortage as described above should change their nutrition habits and use supplements during a certain time.

The term orthomolecular medicine is made up by Linus Pauling. Pauling was a biochemist from America, who received the Nobel price twice.

Orthos is Greek and means right, straight, healthy. Molecular means: concerning the molecules. Molecules are the smallest particles with specified properties. For instance: albumen molecules have properties which are important for the metabolism.

Investigation for a shortage or disturbances in the vitamins, minerals, albumins and poisonings has to be done by:

  • Anamnesis
  • Physical investigation
  • Blood- and urine samples
  • Hair samples
  • DMPS (=mercury) test
  • Electro-acupuncture
